  6. Instructions for use: (versions 3.00 and above)

  9. Note: Select refers to the left mouse button, Menu refers to the middle
  10. button and Adjust  refers to the right button.

  12. Install !Guardian on the icon bar by double-clicking 'select' on !Guardian3.
  13.  
  14. To scan a disc for viruses;
  15.  
  16.    Step a) Call up !Guardian's main menu by pressing Menu on the mouse,
  17.            over the !Guardian icon.
  18.  
  19.         b) Move the mouse across, over the little arrow to the right of 
  20.            the "Scan Disc" option. This will show you a sub-menu.
  21.  
  22.                 i) Moving over the "Filer" option allows you to select a 
  23.                    filing system to scan. 
  24.                    You can choose from ADFS, SCSI, IDEFS, NET and CDFS.
  25.  
  26.                ii) Moving over the "Drive No." option lets you select which 
  27.                    drive you wish to scan - This will usually be 4 (for a 
  28.                    hard disc) or 0 (for a floppy disc)
  29.  
  30.                    N.B. The Auto Scan option lets you type in a directory 
  31.                    name on which to scan automatically everytime !Guardian 
  32.                    is loaded. It will automatically zap any known viruses 
  33.                    without any user intervention. This option is useful to 
  34.                    use on a Network, so that you can scan a user directory 
  35.                    each time the system is booted up.

  37.         c) Having set the filer and drive number of the disc you want to 
  38.            scan, click Select on "Start Scan".
  39.  
  40.         d) The computer will now scan the required disc. If a virus is 
  41.            found, the computer will bleep and you should follow on screen 
  42.            instructions.
  43.  
  44.            N.B. Sometimes the computer will bleep and inform you that 
  45.            something "Looks Suspicious". This usually means that a line has 
  46.            been found that could be loading something. 99 times out of 100 
  47.            this can be ignored by clicking select on "Cancel", but advanced 
  48.            users may like to examine the relevant file by using !Edit.

  50.         e) Setting the "Auto Zap" option from the "Scan Disc" sub-menu 
  51.            (see above) will scan a disc without issuing any prompts, 
  52.            automatically deleting any viruses. This option is handy 
  53.            to set if you are a newcomer or novice to the Archimedes.
  54.  
  55.         f) Pressing ESCAPE at any time will abort the scan.
  56.  
  57.         g) If the 'bleep' sounds become annoying (especially if lots of 
  58.            virus infections are found) you can toggle all sounds on and off 
  59.            by clicking Select on "Sound" from the main menu.
  60.  
  61.         h) If you repeatedly want to use !Guardian with the same options 
  62.            set, click Select over "Save Options".
  63.            N.B. You will need to do this if using the "Auto Scan" (see 
  64.            above) option on a Network.
